Organized crime reaches into ever business that there is across the United States and Miami and the Beaches know for its pleasure seeking motto was on the top of their list.
During your morning portion of the tour, your guide will probe behind the scenes to investigate South Florida’s historic crimes and criminals from the birth of the city of Miami in 1896 to today’s headlines. En route you will gain a fascinating glimpse into the lives and fortunes of the Jewish, Italian and other infamous mobsters who were active in Dade and Broward counties.
You’ll hear about characters such as, Meyer Landsky “who contributed heavily to his Synagogue” to “being good to his mother,” along with his brother Jake, manager of a high class Cuban hotel, built a gambling empire that stretched from Las Vegas to Miami and even into Cuba.
Part of the Jewish Organized crime syndicated known as the “Kosher Mafia.” Also played a central role in the organization of the Italian Nostra in Florida. A lifelong friend of “Bugsy” Siegal and “Lucky Luceno, meeting both in his boyhood in New York, and was instrumental in the rise of the Italian powerhouse Salvatore Maranzano. Born & raised in Brooklyn Al Capone rise to power began when he joined a gang in Chicago Illinois and found Miami Beach a rich, ruthless and rewarding playland for his winter retreats. How these gangster and others controlled many of the Miami Beach hotels and businesses creates a fascinating story and tour.
In the afternoon after lunch Milton will give us an overview of the “South Beach” lifestyle mimicking in a way the luxury and living large in the 40’s & 50’s in Miami Beach. Time permitting a chance to stroll the area.
